The full page currently features three variants:

noapic
noacpi
noapci

noacpi and noapic both seem to help in quite similar situations sometimes, but the fact that the post mentions a third version (which doesn't exist) makes me wonder if they were both actually meant to be on that page.

There is some pretty serious confusion between APIC and ACPI in the proposed FAQ entry, which needs to be cleared up.

According to Documentation/kernel-parameters.txt:
Quote:

noapic [SMP,APIC] Tells the kernel not to make use of any
APIC that may be present on the system.

There does not appear to be a valid pci=noapic variant listed in that document. I was having the same problem with the eth0 timeouts..first I tried the all the invalid variants listed in the faq entry to no avail. Just passing "noapic" to the kernel in /boot/grub/grub.conf fixed the problems.

Here is the relevant section in my conf file:

Code:

kernel /boot/bzImage-2.4.20-gentoo-r5 root=/dev/hda3 mem=nopentium noapic
