googleerarth gives no indication of the error on console, just quits quietly. The xorg server log message is the only message I have.. |

I've got a similar issue with google earth, but now I'm thinking it is anything that use opengl. See my post Nvidia Lockups.

Not working for me either. i seem to reacall it killing X before too, not gonna try it while i'm writing this, but running it from the command line (logged in as user to X, konsole as root) gives:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but Google Earth has crashed.
This is a bug in the program, and should never happen under normal
circumstances. A bug report and debugging data are now being written
to this text file:
/root/.googleearth/crashlogs/crashlog-FF6610F2.txt
This bug report will be sent to Google automatically next time you run
Google Earth. Its data, which contains no personal information, will help
us correct problems without bothering you further. If you would rather
this info not be transmitted, please delete the above file before running
the program again. If you want bug reports to NEVER be sent, remove the
above 'crashlogs' directory's read/write permissions. |
and there doesn't appear to be any USE flags i can change for it either (nor in use.local.desc)

any ideas people? i might try downloading the regular one from their website instead of emerging the gentoo version... |

Hi Guys,
I have the same problem.
Thought it was an amd64 problem, so I took a new notebook (same hardware) and brought it up with gentoo x86.
And?! Same problem again with a non- amd64 machine!
There's probably a problem with opengl, graphic card, mesa, dri support... ?!
An other interesting issue is, that my X server gets stuck when I start vmware (player or workstation), compiz, glxinfo (in a big window) etc.
All these applications which takes up a lot of graphic power...
Does anyone of you have the same issues? _________________ by Shakal

mesa 6.5.x, Intel GMA X3100 (965gm) and DRI is problematic combination. I upgraded to mesa-7.0.1 (~amd64) and now DRI works without crashes but only in 64 bit programs, 32 bit (Google Earth is 32 bit) use emul-linux-x86-xlibs which probably contains the old version of mesa library. |

yup... that's it... I have a X3100 card. I replaced libGL.so.1.2 in the emul package with another from ubuntu (hardy), which uses mesa 7.0.3 ... now, for the first time, I am able to run Google Earth, and with decent performance. It used to crash and kill my system before. So I'm wondering when the devs are going to move the mesa in the emul to 7.x ... |
