I will not be participating in fgo otw discussion for the duration of brenden's ban as a show of solidarity.

Goodbye.

 whatever. I say he got off easy with a remark like that in the thread. Should of been forever instead of just two weeks in my opinion.

His comment was completely inappropriate. If it was up to me, he'd get a much harsher ban. And anybody that sympathizes with him as well, for all I care. You just don't play with the feelings of a person in crisis in that way.

I am glad he was banned. I would have done the same thing. What he did was entirely inappropriate. Good riddance. IMHO, the mods should have made it a permaban.

why are we preaching freedom of speech every time a touchy subject appears and tell religious people to stfu while mocking jesus or allah/mohammed, while we support banning a guy who comes up with an equally inappropriate comment in a slightly different context?

his comment may reflect a basic inability to sympathize, but how does this earn a ban?

Disagreeing with someone's beliefs is not what brenden did. Freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to troll and act like an an inconsiderate ass. Also freedom of speech does not need to be guaranteed here regardless, this is a privately owned and run forum and the staff can set whatever rules they like.

take away the unoffensive posts from otw, and you may shut it down as well. although there have been fewer flamewars lately.

but we do it all the time - usually in a less drastic manner and in (subjectively judged) less tragic circumstances, nevertheless.

What he said was not demonstrating freedom of speech, what he said was rude, offensive, and inconsiderate.
If he did something like that in a public place after an accident he'd get beaten to death.

First off if you feel certain posts are breaking the rules you should help out by reporting them. Anyway regardless, even if the staff are not punishing everyone who breaks the rule or catching every violation that does not mean you can just go ahead and disobey them all you want, without any regard for other members. That's like saying oh people get robbed all the time, and sometimes nothing gets done about it, so I can just ignore that law.

I find it offensive when people tell me God doesn't exist, but they don't get banned.

Why ban Brenden ?

Because he made fun of someone who could die, his wife was kind enough to inform us of his condition, both he, and she didn't deserve it. It was immature, and inconsiderate.

Wietze: God doesn't exist!

I too will stand by brenden and his right to be a troll, I don't even use gentoo anymore so banning me will make as no difference.

Btw Gentoo is fundamentally broken. Ubuntu is the way forward. Enjoy your failure.
