Hi, perhaps everyone realises this already, but I thought I better point it out. When playing video files in any player, with my ati x1600, I've previously had big problems with the video tearing. Now, using the opengl video driver, the latest fglrx drivers, and having edited my /etc/ati/fglrxrc, I'm getting no tearing at all. I have yet to try any opengl games etc but I will do so and see if the tearing is fixed there too. The modification I made to fglrxrc was this:

Code:

<driconf>
    <device driver="fglrx">
        <application name="Maya" executable="maya.bin">
            <option name="app_profile" value="1" />
        </application>
        <application name="Softimage|XSI" executable="XSI">
            <option name="app_profile" value="2" />
        </application>
   <application name="Tripos" executable="sybyl.exe">
            <option name="app_profile" value="3" />
        </application>
   <application name="Tripos" executable="ogltest_new">
            <option name="app_profile" value="3" />
        </application>
   <application name="UGS|NX4" executable="ugraf">
            <option name="app_profile" value="8" />
        </application>
    <application name="Gandalf" executable="gandalf">
            <option name="app_profile" value="9" />
        </application>

<application name="all">
    <option name="swap_on_vblank" value="true" />
</application>

</device>
</driconf>

The important bit being the swap_on_vblank section. For SO long I have tried to get vsync working on this damn card, and it seems finally we're getting somewhere.

I hope this helps somebody.

hi,

I have the same problem with my X1600. All opengl application are tearing. Can u post here your configuration files? (xorg.conf, ati config files)

I also face problems with fullscreen applications. E.g. when i start a slide show in openoffice, the center of the screen is somewhere else, so i see only the half of the window.

greetz,

Adriaan
