I was using Gentoo just fine on an IBM Thinkpad T22 until I tried to 'emerge --sync' one day. I think it was running with a 2004 profile. Now, I'm at the point where it won't even boot.
At the boot screen where the penguin is sitting at the top left corner, it stops at the same place every time:

Code:
fb0: VESA VGA frame buffer device
serio: i8042 AUX port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1
Serial: 8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 8 ports, IRQ sharing disabled
PCI: Found IRQ 11 for device 0000:00:03.0
PCI: Sharing IRQ 11 with 0000:00:03.0

with ACPI enabled in the kernel, it stops here instead:

Code:
serio: i8042 AUX port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1
Serial: 8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 8 ports, IRQ sharing disabled
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] enabled at IRQ 11
ACPI: PCI interrupt 0000:00:03.1[A] -> GSI 11 (level, low) -> IRQ 11

I've tried downloading the latest x86 Gentoo 2007.0-r1 Install CD, but it freezes at the exact same point.

If this sounds familiar, or anybody can help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Paul

As it turns out IRQ11 maps to my network card, and that had apparently gone bad. Since removing it, my system boots fine.
