Hello,

I'm still a little new to linux and am having trouble setting up resolution with wins. I have internet access and can see servers on my network using smbclient. I want to be able to resolve server names outside of smbclient(i.e. ping server-01 and have the server resolved) What else do I need to do?

AFAIK, the C resolver library cannot be told to do WINS lookups. However, the Windows 2000 DNS server has the ability to do WINS lookups when a zone receives a query for an unknown name. If you have a Windows 2000 server in-house, this is the cleanest solution anyway -- to make your *nix boxen speak a standard language and have your Windows boxen translate it into their own proprietary tongue. :D

...besides which, I believe it is your only option.
