you should search the forum first.
There is a post about SL stability already. To make it short: It's as unstable as the windows client.

What is the Gamers & Players forum for if not for asking who plays a game, and how stable the client is for them on Gentoo?

SecondLife works fine on linux, and there is even a layman repo for secondlife.

For tweaks concerning SecondLife, read the contents of the script located in /opt/secondlife/secondlife.
