|
|
I just finished installing and compiling Gentoo today (yay) and i started it for the first time, only to realize that there is no GUI. I remember installing KDE, but however hard i try i cannot get it to start.
I'm dual booting Ubuntu and Gentoo now, i've got a decent Nvidia card that works with the live cd, and my processor is up to it.
here's what happens specifically.
I select gentoo linux from grub
It starts to load, goes into a verbose screen that tells me what's loading
something flashes past in the screen about how the start stop daemon failed to initiate, but it's too fast for me to read
I see an error that the display manager failed to load.
It takes me to a command line where i can log in, when I do I am in bash. I've been trying to open /var/log/Xorg.0.log from inside of it, but i can't seem to get it to work. I am used to typing Code: | sudo gedit -----whatever the file is----- | to read things, but i don't know many commands in gentoo.
is there any way to get my display manager running? |

To view a text file in a terminal, try less filename. To edit a text file in a terminal, try nano -w filename. Either command can be used with sudo, though for some tasks you might find it to be more convenient to use su and forgo sudo.
Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads, as it is a duplicate of "KDE won't display". One topic per problem, please. |
