Spent quite a while searching the archives, so I'm fairly sure this isn't a dupe. Whilst tidying up all the ._cfg??? files in /etc, I managed to delete the file /etc/cupsd/printers.conf. This obviously screwed my printing! It's been quite a while since I actually installed my Samsung ML-4500, (b/w laser) and all I remember is that it didn't seem very straight forward!
I used the html GUI on localhost:631 to try adding the printer again, specifying /dev/lp0 as the port. (It's LPT1 in Windows.) However, whenever I try printing (even with things like the lp) command, nothing comes out. What is interesting is that the Data light on my printer blinks ONCE whenever I send a job to it, but it doesn't print. This is the only thing it does (although the job does leave the CUPS print queue (using lpq). This happens whether I'm trying as a regular user, or root.
I noticed the file printer.conf was recreated under ownership of 'lp', with permissions 600. Is this right? chmod-ing it didn't help mind. I'd be grateful for any suggestions! Normally I'd "embrace the challenge", but I've got a lot of work right now!!
Cheers,
Tom. |
