I suppose it's not a good thing to be losing these things but, this is DEFINITELY frustrating. I, like alot of people here, am subscribed to a fair number of forums. Recently, I've been trying to post in forums and discover that I'm haven't been logged in. And I'm not talking like I've been away from the forum for months. These places I visit everyday or every other day. Why is this happening? Is the webserver possibley resetting them? Is there corruption in my cookies? I just a bit frustrated. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? _________________ • Helpful Linux Tidbits

Cookies can be deactivated in the browser... check you preferences.
Have you recently updated you browser? If so, it sometimes helps if you start with a clean "profile".
cheers

Moved from Gentoo Chat to Gentoo Forums Feedback.

Yeah, I definitely believe/think it is. I just had to login once more here. I use Mozilla-Firefox.

I definitely updated recently my browser yes. But should that make a difference? I don't want to erase a profile if I can possibly help it. _________________ • Helpful Linux Tidbits |

I suggest copy/move your profile to a safe location, and really start with a new one. then you can copy one item after another back in, and see if it still work. the profile for firefox is located in ~/.mozilla/firefox/<some-random-string>.default/

I've run into the same problem recently, but only with this site. Here is the chain of events that I have found will invalidate the cookie. I try to view the forums. DNS returns an address for forums.gentoo.org and the browser sends a request. The forums are down for some reason and never responds. After a couple of minutes, I either hit the stop button or just close the tab. The next time I connect to the forums and they respond, my cookie is invalid and I have to login again. _________________

Tired... of logging in over and over, I finally deleted my profile. This I had for a long while so I decided it it best just to see if a new profile worked. Don't however try it. I spent maybe an hour or so setting it back up again, and I still need to put it Tons of logins and passes. The reasons for this occurring is the servers themselves. Servers that are say, reset, settings changed, or admins that are poking around.
Marking as Unsolvable. _________________ • Helpful Linux Tidbits |
