I am trying to compile a static linked binary version of lynx web browser that will work on any i386 box. I did the configure then I did make LDFLAGS='-s -static'
problem is that the binary only works on my i686 box which has the compilier. Every package on my system is compiled for i686....The box that does not have a compiler is an i586 and lynx fails with an error: Illegal instruction
I thought maybe it is because the ssl libraries etc. are compiled for i686 & I may need to change my make.conf to i386 and then emerge -e lynx then recompile lynx ? can someone confirm if this is the correct thing to do ?
thanks |

I've come across a similar problem. Did you ever get a fix for this? |

yep, thats the problem, you can use this script to check.
Remerging your entire system just to create a static binary for another system is a bit of overkill, but if its important you can do that. _________________ --------------------------------------
