Well, once upon a time I heard that there is a project creating a booting floppy for gentoo installation. Is this project still alive? Where can I find more information about such project? |

Do you have a CD but your computer won't boot from it? If so, The Gentoo Linux alternative installation method HOWTO shows how to make a bootloader floppy that will boot the install CD.
Not have a CD at all? This old post shows a method to use another distribution's boot floppy set to install Gentoo.
But, native Gentoo install floppies do not exist as far as I know.

Well, in fact I have already tried to install Gentoo from the boot disc of another distribution but it is quite difficult. Since the new profile nowadays uses GCC4 and a new glibc or so, one cannot chroot from those old boot disc, such as Debian. I have to revert to an old profile and update afterwards the gcc, and rebuild the system again. Is there any floppy distro that can chroot to stage 3 package of 2007.0 profile? |
