Sorry I'm new to Gentoo..but the graphics installer halts when unpacking portage file....I waited for a while..but nothing seems to respond...Is that a bug?
I might try the minimal install method... |

I saw a similar problem. I make no promises, but I had some luck by booting the livecd with "gentoo ide=nodma docache". The 'docache' flag only works if you've got twice as much memory as there is on the boot CD (according to the messages during boot).
It might work, it might not, I'd be curious to know.
