I was having issues with this as we have storage arrays here at the office with 8TB in a raid-5-0 fashion, thus providing a total of 4TB of disk space. Using fdisk it was only able to read a cylinder sitting around the 1.2TB mark as the last cylinder. I later discovered this was because the partition table was msdos and fdisk doesn't support partitions larger than 2TB (Could be wrong on the fdisk one).

Using parted, I created a GPT formatted table instead of msdos. This fixed the issue and I was able to map all 4TB to the partition I created.

# parted
(parted) mklabel gpt
(parted) mkpart primary 0 100%

Hope this helps someone, I had to search for awhile before finding out this information.

That was me, and if you had bothered to read the report, it was a proposal to move the post into the Documentation, Tips & Tricks forum.
