Finished the 'install' process fixed a few bugs involved. Fixed a little problem along the kde emerge process and I am up!
Running KDE and BLACKBOX on my Gentoo Linux System. A little kernel tweaking and I will have sound.
Anyone know what chipset a Hercules Furtisimo II uses? I think it, crystal sound fusion or something like.
This is definetly the fastest linux install I have ever had.
Kudos the the Gentoo Linux Community!

The Hercules Fortissimo II uses the Crystal Soundfusion CS4624 from Cirrus Logic. You should be able to use the cs46xx driver if you want to use OSS kernel drivers, and I'm sure ALSA supports it also. |

Thanks for the information. Thats what I thought. My experiences with Mandrake Linux and Redhat Linux ... led me to this conclusion. (They really are a hell of a lot slower btw) I love a customized make.conf!
I can't wait to recompile my kernel with support. Is there anything else I must do? I suppose it's outlined in the Gentoo Desktop setup guide... I will have to wait til monday likely. Going to SIU over the weekend, leaving after school.

I'd recommend compiling the driver as a module, that way it's easy to change to another driver. I believe you should be able to change to ALSA without recompiling the kernel then, as ALSA should be able to run as module. But I'm not sure, since I've never dealt with ALSA. |
