Hello!

I experienced the problem, that beryl does not show any windows after an upgrade of the xserver and the libX... libraries. This problem has already been described in several other threads, but all provided solutions do not seem to work in my case. I have remove the beryl configs (~/.beryl) (proposed in one thread) and I reemerged the xorg-xserver ebuild. I also tried to downgrade libXrandr and xrandr and recompiled the xserver, but nothing changed. Even a full downgrade of the xserver had no impact. I also reemerged beryl-core and beryl-plugins, without changing anything.

My current setup (using XGL with the fglrx drivers):
Code:

[ebuild   R   ] x11-base/xorg-server-1.2.0-r3  USE="dri ipv6 nptl xorg -3dfx -debug -dmx -kdrive -minimal -sdl -xprint" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev keyboard mouse -acecad -aiptek -calcomp -citron -digitaledge -dmc -dynapro -elo2300 -elographics -fpit -hyperpen -jamstudio -joystick -magellan -microtouch -mutouch -palmax -penmount -spaceorb -summa -synaptics -tek4957 -ur98 -vmmouse -void -wacom" VIDEO_CARDS="fglrx vesa -apm -ark -chips -cirrus -cyrix -dummy -epson -fbdev -glint -i128 -i740 -i810 (-impact) -imstt -mach64 -mga -neomagic (-newport) -nsc -nv -nvidia -r128 -radeon -rendition -s3 -s3virge -savage -siliconmotion -sis -sisusb (-sunbw2) (-suncg14) (-suncg3) (-suncg6) (-sunffb) (-sunleo) (-suntcx) -tdfx -tga -trident -tseng -v4l -vga -via -vmware -voodoo" 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] x11-base/xorg-x11-7.2  0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.35.5  USE="acpi -qt3" 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] x11-libs/libXrandr-1.2.1  USE="-debug" 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] x11-proto/randrproto-1.2.1  USE="-debug" 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] x11-libs/libXcomposite-0.3.1  USE="-debug" 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] x11-libs/libXdamage-1.1.1  USE="-debug" 0 kB
[ebuild   R   ] x11-proto/inputproto-1.4.1  USE="-debug" 0 kB

As I said, I already reemerged the xserver:
Code:
emerge xorg-server

Xgl is working, with xfwm4 I get 3d acceleration.
revdep-rebuild does not find any broken links.

I think the problem might be, that there is another dependency, that I am not aware of. Perhaps I have to reemerge another ebuild, not only the xorg-server...

Thanks for any hints...

Edit: changed title to [SOLVED]

I was having the same exact problem as well, but upgrading to xorg-server-1.3.0 solved the problem. Hope that helps you out :)

Thanks for your hint. I will try to upgrade xorg-server...

Do you also used the fglrx driver? It seems to be a little complicated, as the latest ati-drivers ebuild (8.35.5) blocks xorg-server-1.3.0...

Edit:
I am now running xorg-server-1.3.0 with ati-drivers-8.35.5. Unfortunately this changes nothing. I also tried the ati-drivers-8.36.5, but I did not get it working...

try re-emerging xgl ... by using ati-drivers, it means you are using xgl.
