I checked several other mirrors but they don't allow dir access yet, but my local mirror is up and has it!

At last. No official word about the release yet though.
Although Gentoo is not a release-driven distro, it is very good to see the new release! Go Gentoo

Edit: 'fixed' the link ;)

I got my mirror banned from the official mirror list once for accidentally allowing access to a new release before the official release date.

Thanks for pointing out that mirror, we'll follow up with that admin as to why his server is misconfigured.

Please don't post the URLs publically, rather file a bug or email somebody in the infrastructure team in future.

So when is the official release date? Older builds won't boot on my new system.

The upgrade docs are not yet updated:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-upgrading.xml

But I took the risk and updated my x86_64 system with no problems. Some new default use flags but nothing interesting.

Just throw a new kernel on the old CD.

So the only thing you have to do to update your profile is

Code:

eselect profile default-linux/x86/2007.0/desktop
emerge -avuD world

?

That's because at the time, release was still 3 hours away. The docs aren't updated until the media is available on the mirrors. I had already written the handbooks and other docs, and I committed them at the same time that infra sent the command to make the 2007.0 media available. So they went "live" at the same time (an hour and 22 minutes ago). Refresh your browser to see the nifty changes I made to the upgrading guide. :)

First of all: thanks for the great job to all devs!

Why don't the docs mention "--newuse" at all? I think users could get problems if they update the profile but don't update with "--newuse" as many use flags get changed at profile changes. I'd guess that at least "--depclean" could cause problems.

Not complaining, just a curiosity - was it intentional to leave the fbsplash with 2006.1 on it?

Bloody good timing!

Today been trashing my Windows XP installation on my Vaio, couldn't get Ubuntu 7.4 to install due to ongoing ATI problems with detection. It also wouldn't pick up an IP from my DHCP router, although it did bring up eth0 without an error report.

So, after many years, I am going back to Linux. The 2006.1 LiveCD for some reason borked my partition table, and wouldn't detect my hard disk, I had already wiped Windows

So, low and behold, I reinstalled a small 15GB Windows partition (smallest that the Vaio resintallation allows), went to Gentoo homepage and hooray, 2007.0 is out.

So, downloading now, hopefully it will work well.

Yeah, that was accidentally left in. And it's only on the x86 minimal iso.

Cool - just wondering. Thanks!

First, that's not in the base 2007.0/ profile; that's in the desktop/ subprofile.

Second, I spoke with Releng, and the response is that it's there for a few reasons, including evolution-exchange and PAM authentication through active directory (thanks to wolf31o2 and dostrow for that information).

Sure, I've always installed with kerberos for integration with AD. Thing is it's always been a bit tricky, but it won't be an issue for new installs from now on of course. I think the smbkrb5passwd in openldap conflicts with it iirc, by pulling in heimdal, and some people might have that set.
