I know there's already a topic similar to this one. But I've already tried the solution listed there to no avail.
Breif rundown of my setup:
Router - Linksys WRT54G, running modified firmware.
eth0 - nVidia nForce onboard Ethernet, currently bridged into my Windows box to provide net access. Configured via DHCP. The Windows box, is wirelessly connected to the Linksys Router.
ath0 - D-Link DWL-G520 Wireless card, Atheros Chipset. Drivers are madwifi-ng 0.9.3-r2.
ath0 starts up fine, and is detected by both the kernel and ifconfig/iwconfig.

The problem, as near as I can figure is that, as shown below, the card is looking at the wrong Wireless channel to get it's DHCP information. It should be looking at channel 11, not channel 7.
| Code: |
* Starting ath0
* Loading networking modules for ath0
* modules: apipa arping ccwgroup macchanger macnet rename ifplugd iwconfig essidnet iptunnel ifconfig system dhcpcd ip6to4
* ifplugd provides plug
* iwconfig provides wireless
* ifconfig provides interface
* dhcpcd provides dhcp
* Configuring ath0 for MAC address 00:0F:3D:AE:78:4F ...
* ifplugd does not work on wireless interfaces
* Configuring wireless network for ath0
* Scanning for access points
* Found "ikaruga" at 00:14:BF:0D:10:A8 (managed, encrypted)
* Found "2WIRE972" at 00:14:95:43:23:1A (managed, encrypted)
* Found "Belkin_N1_Wireless_2118EB" at 00:17:3F:21:18:EB (managed, encrypted)
* Found "2WIRE044" at 00:19:E4:99:9D:49 (managed, encrypted)
* Found "2WIRE774" at 00:14:95:06:65:E9 (managed, encrypted)
* Connecting to "ikaruga" in managed mode (WEP enabled - restricted) ...
* ath0 connected to ESSID "ikaruga" at 00:14:BF:0D:10:A8
* in managed mode on channel 7 (WEP enabled - restricted)
* Configuring ath0 for ESSID "ikaruga" ...
* Bringing up ath0
* dhcp
* Running dhcpcd ...
Timeout here.

Here's my current conf.d/net...
| Code: |
# This blank configuration will automatically use DHCP for any net.*
# scripts in /etc/init.d. To create a more complete configuration,
# please review /etc/conf.d/net.example and save your configuration
# in /etc/conf.d/net (this file :]!).
modules=( "iwconfig" )
preferred_aps=( "ikaruga" )
config_eth0=( "dhcp" )
dhcpcd_eth0="nodns nontp nonis"
#iwconfig_ath0="channel 11"
#channel_ath0="11"
config_ikaruga=( "dhcp" )
key_ikaruga="[1] XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XX key [1] enc restricted"
channel_ikaruga="11"
#dhcpcd_ikaruga="-t 60 -d" |
None of the three above statements have made any dent in forcing the card from it's insistance on using Channel 7 instead of Channel 11 to connect to the router, and increasing the timeout value for dhcpcd hasn't helped either. The more annoying thing is that once the system is booted, as in a previous problem mentioned in the forums here, I can manually set the values and dhcpcd will happily return with an IP and a stable connection in under five seconds, if that long.
I've been fighting with this one for a couple days, and have already scoured the HOWTOs and the Gentoo Handbook, as well as the forums here, but I've yet to find anything that works to fix my particular instance of this problem. So, I figured it was finally time to open my big mouth and ask.
Lemme know if you need any other information or the like. I'll gladly post whatever's needed. |

How about you replace
| Code: |
channel_ikaruga="11" |

As you'll notice in my conf.d/net listed above, channel_ath0="11" is in there as a commented out line. This would be because I already tried that paricular line and, just like using iwconfig_ath0="channel 11" and channel_ikaruga="11" as has been suggested in various other places, it doesn't work.
Or, more specifically, it will on occasion cause the channel to scan on 11 at boot *once*. Before it promptly reverts to scanning on channel 7 despite having the line that *should* work in there. |

I'm with the same problem here. Using a Dlink DWL-G650 adapter.
The network card tries some random channel, but should be using channel 6. If i try to reload the net.ath0 service then i normally uses the right channel, but always fail the first time it is started (that is, when booting).
No solution yet.
