|
|
Hi guys,
I am looking for a good first person shooting game for my desktop. I understand that Quake only installs the engine and that I would still require some sort of data files (that I dont have). Are there any self contained fps games in portage? It would be best if they run on amd64 stable. Does Doom require data files too? And what about wolfeinstein? I browsed games-fps and there are so many options I dont even know what to do!
Thank you for any recommendations! |

Much depends if you want a single-player game or multi-player (and then there are bot games like Quake 3, the UTs). |

I would prefer them to be single player and that they dont require to connect to any kind of server. |

Most engines work with the demo data.
Also see bugzilla search. |

Sauerbraten and Nexuiz both have single player deathmatches against bots, Sauerbraten also has single player levels.
For commercial games, you can get the Windows installation CD for the quake or doom series and copy the data files across from there. There are also some free data files for doom being created (http://freedoom.sourceforge.net) that you can use with one of the free doom engines (such as prboom). |

Even though I play hardly any single player games, I liked Quake 4 and Doom 3.
Damnation is a really good singleplayer Mod for Unreal Tournament 2004 that has a great atmosphere. |
