Lucky you... What kind of jobs are easily available outside of Auckland anyway? Yes, but being paid by you for sexual favours is something I'd rather not do. _________________ The God idea is growing more impersonal and nebulous in proportion as the human mind is learning to understand natural phenomena and in the degree that science progressively correlates human and social events. -- Emma Goldman |

i haven't stopped using gentoo for 4 1/2 years, been at uni in wellington the whole time. still pretty much a n00b, but that's fine, cos it still works. a thesis in LaTeX kicks Werd's @ss.
i flicked sabayon onto a spare hard drive the other day, to see what it's like, because i still toss coins every now and then as to whether to recommend Linux or even Gentoo to people (i've told people i like it, but have never recommended it). but pure gentoo is the way to go... it's not that hard, and (on topic) i think Kiwis are particularly suited to its approach. |

Are you at vic?
I took a couple classes there when I was there. I am American though.
I stayed in Weirhouse and took the cablecar to town sometimes... |

In New Plymouth. I'm an expat american, but have been here about 4 years with the kiwi wife and
two sprogs.
We're starting a LUG - http://tlug.linux.net.nz/cms/ so if you're in the neighborhood, come on by for a meeting. I'm a bit
out numbered at the meetings; Gentoo scares the crap out of our members.

Hmm, interesting, thanks..
I've been hoping in a few years I could move out of Auckland, in to the country side and get a cheap house and stuff. _________________ The God idea is growing more impersonal and nebulous in proportion as the human mind is learning to understand natural phenomena and in the degree that science progressively correlates human and social events. -- Emma Goldman |

Houses might be cheaper here than Auckland, but not much anymore.
I was surprised to hear we get the second most sunshine hours to nelson.

Yep, I'm at Victoria University. There's only a couple of Gentoo users around that I know of, but I'm not in the Comp Sci department, so I'm sure there are more. I got the perfect recommendation from a comp sci friend, and (i think) it was the perfect suggestion. took a while to get full immersion though. |

Xerxian goes to Vic, but he's in Economics, because he's boring and smells funny and wants to wear a suit. _________________ The God idea is growing more impersonal and nebulous in proportion as the human mind is learning to understand natural phenomena and in the degree that science progressively correlates human and social events. -- Emma Goldman |

They have a student deal, all you can eat for $7 I think. (at hells)
I actually never saw a pizza hut in NZ when I was there. I saw a lot of dominos.
I love that you guys don't charge extra for toppings. |

There are quite a few of them around, although I'm told they're not doing as well as they used to be - Dominoes and Hell have been putting a lot of pressure on them, apparently it's pretty cutthroat. _________________ What are you, stupid? |

if i'm going to get pizza, i only get Hell. you can collect tokens from other people's discarded pizza boxes in their recycling crates and get free (as in no monies!) pizza nearly all the time.
but don't tell anyone.
can you tell i don't study Economics or do anything lucrative? mostly i'm a bum
so that's why i need free software. i say, if you're going to pay nothing for software (e.g. pirated copies of M$ Office, etc), why not "not pay" for something GOOD, you dumb feckers.
much like Michael Mason from the NZ cricket team ... if you're going to chuck it, chuck it FAST, at least. |

Where the best place to buy pc gear? (if you don't live in Auckland, Wellington or CHCH or near by.)
I need a motherboard for my amd64 4800+ 939 chip and 4x1gb ram bits and a case, and may be
a hard drive, dvd r/w and may be a video card.
www.ascent.co.nz seems expensive, and selection isn't so good.
www.tradme.co.nz seems dodgy |

supercheappc. The store name is actually global pc. Be wary of what you're buying, as they charge a 'reshelving' fee if you return something that isn't broken. They're on the corner of pitt and k road.

you can pay by bank payment, and I bought a hard disk (320gb for only $130 or something like that) and a DVDRW drive, and was couriered pretty much straight away. _________________ He who calls for full employment calls for war! |

thanks, didn't find a matching board, though.
Looking for a board that supports amd64 3000+ and 4800+
or, just 4800+. and is listed here |
