I'm trying to update software on a UML disk image that I use for kernel testing, but have so far been unable to update binutils, perl, sysvinit, util-linux, or glibc. Since these packages are required for just about everything else, it's hard to continue without finding a way to update them. The disk image was last updated last spring (June or so). emerge --sync worked properly. The relevant parts of my build logs and the output of emerge --info are attached. If anyone has any insights into this problem, please advise.

Rennie deGraaf

I tried rebuilding my image from scratch following the instructions at http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_User_Mode_Linux; I encountered the same problems.

I tried changing my profile to default-linux/x86/2006.1, and still encountered the same problems.

Same problem; this solved:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-430269-highlight-pathwtmp.html

as here:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-16353-highlight-pathwtmp.html

but someone sudjested to re-emerge kernel headers:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-197844-highlight-pathwtmp.html
