controlling keyboard leds

Has anyone tried controlling keyboard leds with ledcontrol or any other such tool? I'd like to set an unused keyboard led to indicate new e-mail.

you can do it with an ioctl, but exactly what the system call would look like I don't remember. You'd find it easily online, though. It's a lower level solution than ledcontrol but would probably work.
