I installed alsa-oss because everything seems to want to use OSS, but I can't get anything to work with it. /dev/mixer and /dev/dspX don't show up. My /etc/modules.d/alsa looks right, but I am not sure. Any ideas? |

What does lsmod show? Also, what version of alsa-driver (or if the in-kernel driver, which kernel?) are you using? The alsa-oss package is somewhat older, and shouldn't be needed at all. What you need is alsa-driver or the in-kernel alsa, alsa-headers, alsa-plugins, and alsa-lib. Then run alsaconf and add alsasound to the default runlevel, and you should be set. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |

For sparc you don't use alsa-driver (we don't support it, just the kernel built-in drivers).
Usually setting things up is just editing /etc/modules.d/alsa and setting:
alias snd-card-0 snd-sun-cs4231
and uncommenting:
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
Then emerging alsa-utils and using the /etc/init.d/alsasound script to start things up. _________________ Gustavo Zacarias

Oh, OK. I just grabbed the post from unanswered and completely tuned out the actual forum it was from. _________________ Thomas S. Howard |
