Can't start X, errors can be found at the bottom of this post in Xorg log

what came to my eyes was this:
Code:

(--) Assigning device section with no busID to primary device
(--) Chipset generic found

Fatal server error:
Cannot run in framebuffer mode. Please specify busIDs        for all framebuffer devices

do i need to specify a busID ? if yes then how
.. also .. saw others had (maybe) the same problem (but still .... problems) with kernel-2.6.19 :|

Quote:
$ grep -i "busID" /etc/X11/xorg.conf
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"

is the same of your lspci for this line :
Quote:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV250 If [Radeon 9000] (rev 01)

I'm reading the same on my log. I'm getting an "out of range", when I startx. The line that concerns me and I see it in your log too:

[= =] log file: ‘/var/log/xorg.0.log’, Time: TUE Mar 09:15:27 2007
[EE] unable to locate/open config file

I thought the config file would be in /etc - but I'm not seeing any xorg.conf file.

Regards,
TomP

Did the build finish cleanly? The X11 directory should have been created for you.
What does emerge xorg-x11 -pv say?

I’m sorry to be back to this subject but in 3 days I’ve made little progress. I did read the documentation: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/xorg-config.xml

Video card: ATI 3D Rage IIC AGP - when I run with a livecd, it loads: Xorg(ati)Server

I’m stuck with this one when I run the xorg.config.new: (EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable

In the log, this is what I’m seeing (regarding AIGLX):
200:(==) AIGLX enabled
1639:(EE) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable
