First I don't have compviz-vanilla or quinnstorm even with package.keywords filled in as suggested by the wiki. Portage just says package not found.. Do I need to overlay them from somewhere too? All I saw in the wiki about them were to add them to my packages.keywords file.
Secondly .. I try the suggestion on the wiki to add a non existant compviz to my configuration editor, and although I have found this similar error on these forums, none seem to cover my base ..
Code: |
Justins_Damn_Computer justin # export GCONF_CONFIG_SOURCE="xml:merged:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults"
Justins_Damn_Computer justin # gconftool-2 --makefile-install-rule /etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas
Resolved address "xml:merged:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults" to a writable configuration source at position 0
I/O warning : failed to load external entity "/etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas"Failed to open `/etc/gconf/schemas/compiz.schemas': No such file or directory
|
I've searched for compiz.schemas and nothing seems to pop up.
Help?
Thank you much ahead of time,

You should try reading the whole howto. Especially '3.2 Checkout An Overlay' is what you should go for.[/quote] |

You mean this part?
Code: |
Manual Checkout
If you wish to maintain the overlay yourself, perform the following. Otherwise, you may skip down to HOWTO XGL#Unmasking relevant packages.
* Note : it is best to keep all overlays separate from each other.
# change dir to your favorite overlays directory
cd /usr/local/overlays
# checkout the overlay from CoffeeBuzz's Subversion repository to the subdir 'xgl-coffee'
svn co http://svn.xgl-coffee.org/xgl-coffee/trunk xgl-coffee
Now you have a portage overlay tree under /usr/local/overlays/xgl-coffee.
Add this path to your PORTDIR_OVERLAY in /etc/make.conf.
File: /etc/make.conf
PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/overlays/xgl-coffee"
|
(My portage overlay is actually kept on my server .. so .. /shared/LinuxApps/Portage/xgl-coffee would be my case).
[edit]
Yes I did that .. and installed xgl (via emerge xgl) .. the overlay checks out fine (xgl-coffee) .. but for some reason, only xgl showed up after getting it set up, not compiz-vanilla/quinnstorm.
Do I need to change something not mantioned? I looked and xgl-coffee is populated.
Thanks,

so, you have no /shared/LinuxApps/Portage/xgl-coffee/x11-wm/compiz-{quinnstorm | vanilla}? |

Nope .. sorry, just compiz, and metacity. (/shared/LinuxApps/Portage/xgl-coffee/x11-wm/compiz .. and /shared/LinuxApps/Portage/xgl-coffee/x11-wm/metacity) .. I dunno what's up .. I did the normal subvbersion etc...
Partly on topic, is there a way to run Xgl on both my monitors? (Even if one doesn't have the cool wiggly winder's it'd be nice not to have to ignore my other monitor)..
Tank you all for your time,

Somehow found compiz-vanilla and quinnstorm .. (ran ./install.sh from xgl-coffee) ..
All went well .. except compiz-vanilla nor quinnstorm compile w/out errors ..
Thanks for the help so far,
