sandbox and TMP environment variable

Hello.

I have a small issue with Gentoo's sandbox. In order to override the /tmp default for some apps, I add TMP=~/tmp to my shell starting scripts.

It works beautifully except when emerging a package. The sandbox yells because and refuses to write temporary files into ~/tmp . Removing the TMP environment variable before emerging any package works, but is there an easier and more elegant solution to that issue?
