I have been thinking. while the portage database is fairly easy to parse and work with though, in the future there are likely to be many changes in format as more and more features are added.
what do you guys think about some "official" libs for working with the portage system that provide some basic functions (list avail packages, list installed packages, search, etc, etc....)
i think it would help along a LOT of the portag related development.
I mean, portage is open source, so it isnt a big deal, i am even considered writting some C/C++ libs to help me integrate portage into kpackage
but somthing "official" that was maintained as portage changed would be awsome.
