|

I've been trying to get connected to the internet to install Gentoo. I used
modprobe sis900
then net-setup eth0
the network info I have is
IP 192.168.1.137
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
default gateway 192.168.1.254
default DNS 61.233.9.9
alt. DNS 211.98.2.4
I assume 192.168.1.255 is the broadcast address.
This is how it is set up in windows and there's no problem connecting there.
In the Gentoo installation process, it doesn't work. I cannot ping anywhere.
Am I missing an obvious step? _________________ GO ASASHORYU!

Do you have the right module for your network card?
Are there any errors in:
Try
Code: |
# ping 192.168.1.137
# ping 192.168.1.254
# ping 61.233.9.9
|
All those MUST work.
If that works, make sure
/etc/resolv.conf contains
nameserver 61.233.9.9
We'll worry about getting that in /etc/conf.d/net after.
You can't use DHCP?
It would be so much simpler. |

I tried editing /etc/resolv.conf and changing the nameserver addys to
61.233.9.9 and 211.98.2.4
that didn't help
I can ping 192.168.1.137
but not 192.168.1.254 or 61.233.9.9
those addys time out _________________ GO ASASHORYU!

You have a lot of modules for network cards you don't have.
I don't know if they would conflict.
You could try recompiling your kernel with just the sis900 one.
You could also add 'disableapic" to the kernel line in your grub boot manager configuration. |
