I just upgraded to astersik-1.2.14-r1 and I can not start it. All I get:
Starting asterisk PBX (as asterisk) ... [ !! ]

/var/log/asterisk/queue_log is the only file that is being updated and doesn't contain anything it can give me a clue:

With asterisk 1.2.13 I was still using mpg123, and after upgrade to 1.2.14-r1 the CPU get 99% and it was mpg123 so I kill the process and commented out in musiconhold.conf :
Code:
#mode=mp3
#directory=/var/lib/asterisk/mohmp3/my-selection

to deactivate music on hold. So CPU is now normal but asterisk will not start.

After upgrading to Asterisk-1.2.14-r1 I can only see in /etc/asterisk essential file:
Code:
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk  3260 Mar 16 20:38 asterisk.adsi
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk   791 Nov 11 14:01 cdr_mysql.conf
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk  1083 Mar 16 20:38 extensions.ael
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk 17683 Mar 14 19:38 extensions.conf
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk 17683 Mar 16 18:05 extensions.conf-backup
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk 17087 Mar 14 19:38 iax.conf
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk 17087 Mar 16 18:06 iax.conf-backup
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk 16907 Oct 21 21:32 iax.conf_backup
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk  1459 Oct 21 23:23 modules.conf
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk  1894 Mar 16 19:53 musiconhold.conf
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk   406 Nov 11 14:01 res_mysql.conf
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk 23798 Mar 14 19:38 sip.conf
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk 23798 Mar 16 18:05 sip.conf-backup
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk  1384 Mar 16 20:38 telcordia-1.adsi
-rw-r----- 1 root asterisk 10078 Dec 17 14:17 voicemail.conf

Where did the rest of the files go?

Yeah, mine disappeared too when I re-emerged asterisk. Where in the world did they go? No matter how many times I delete the config and re-emerge, they won't come back.

Asterisk moved them to: //usr/share/doc/asterisk-1.2.14-r2/conf

Install / activate enotice, it will help a lot.

Good call. I was able to take out all of the files needed from /usr/share/doc/asterisk-1.2.14-r2/conf. What I actually did was back up the files that it left there when I re-emerged it, copied over the sample config files, and then copied over what I backed up. Worked well. Thanks.
