Hi. I have read other threads about this problem, but none of the solutions have worked for me. When emerging gnome, I run into this error:

In the other threads, the solution is to set the X flag in the USE statement. However, it is already set. Is there something that I am missing?

Just for kicks and giggles, I decided to emerge cairo directly. To my surprise, it worked. Now im reemerging gnome, and so far, there are no more errors. I'll wait before I determine if this tread is solved, however. |

cairo needs the X flag set
Pretty straight forward message.
The base contains cairo, but not built w/ X as a USE flag. |

I had figured thats what it was, but the problem was that X was already in my USE string. I'm still not sure why it did not work the first time, but after I emerged cairo first, gnome installed just fine. Thanks, though. |

Moved from Desktop Environments to Duplicate Threads, refer to topic "Please re-emerge [solved]".
As noted in the handbook USE flags specified via environment variables are not retained as persistent settings so, aside from when a given USE flag setting is itself transient in nature, use one of the persistent USE flag setting methods (/etc/make.conf, /etc/portage/package.use). Also, note that USE flags are case sensitive. |
