laptop stalls when booting on gentoo CD

I'm trying to install gentoo 1.4rc3 on my laptop but it stalls when booting from the CD... it's when it comes to "Detecting USB" it stalls and I can't get it to skip past that part.. I'm clueless here.

any1 got any ideas? (The laptop is running M$ windoze xp atm.. it's horrible!

well firstly I would say download the latest rc_4 cd

and try that.

doh... now it works

it was during the detection of the soundcard is stalled with RC3.. but RC4 simply says "driver unknown" and continues booting

u will prob have to use alsa for your sound then, cause the boot cd uses kernel sound I think.. alsa is better anyhow
