Hello everyone!
I've got a problem with my wifi card. I've emerged madwifi-ng and madwifi-ng tools. When I try to do this:
Code: | wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta |
I get:
Code: | wlanconfig: ioctl: No such device |
That's my lspci:
Code: | lspci | grep Atheros
05:07.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5005G 802.11abg NIC (rev 01) |
That's lsmod:
Code: | lsmod

Hi,
Sorry but this reply isn't any help.
I just wanted to chime in and say that I am having the exact same problem and would really appreciate any help that any one can provide.
Cheers,

So I have followed these steps:
Quote: | Then, if you still want to use it, you must reload ath_pci manually, for ath_rate_sample is loaded after ath_pci, but the former didn’t know it, and it can’t specify ath_rate_sample as its depend modules for this can be specify when it was loading.
Code: |
4 modprobe -r ath_pci
5 modprobe -r wlan_tkip
6 modprobe -r wlan_scan_sta
7 modprobe -r ath_rate_sample
8
9 modprobe ath_rate_sample
10 modprobe wlan_scan_sta
11 modprobe wlan_tkip
12 modprobe ath_pci
|
|
And the result is:
Code: | wlanconfig ath0 create wlandev wifi0 wlanmode sta
wlanconfig: ioctl: Input/output error |
dmesg:
Code: | ath_pci: driver unloaded
wlan: driver unloaded
ath_hal: driver unloaded

Done! I've just written:

It works! Thanks a lot! Hope it helps you, PieRow _________________ pozdrawiam,

Well it's helped a little bit So cheers burtull but I am still having issues :/
iwconfig is giving me a strange compatibility error:
Code: |
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
sit0 no wireless extensions.
wifi0 no wireless extensions.
Warning: Driver for device ath0 has been compiled with version 22
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 20.
Some things may be broken...

Also ifconfig does not show ath0 unless I have it as an argument though I think this is because I haven't set a static IP for the wireless NIC:
ifconfig ath0
Code: |
ath0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:E0:88:30:B0
BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
|
Is the error displayed under iwconfig something to do with my kernel version? |

By not trying to create an existing interface. By default you get the ath0 interface, mode station, so don't bother creating it manually.

Ignore it. Harmless.
Quote: | Also ifconfig does not show ath0 unless I have it as an argument though I think this is because I haven't set a static IP for the wireless NIC |
This is because the interface is not up. |
