|
|
Hey all,
I'm trying to install Gentoo on a sparc ultra10. I put in the sparc livecd and at the openboot prompt i type 'boot cdrom'. The system restarts like it should and then it says "Welcome to the Gentoo/Linux SPARC64 InstallCD 2006.1" and I get the boot: prompt. I type "gentoo" like the handbook says to and i get the following error:
Your imagename: 'gentoo' and arguments '' have either wrong syntax, or describe a label which is not present in silo.conf.
Any insight onto what the problem could be?
Thanks,
-Austin |

What program did you use to burn the CD? Sun systems require a different sized boot sector than PC's do, and some CD record programs try to 'fix' your boot sector so that it will boot on a PC. (nero comes to mind) I don't remember what program I used to burn my sun boot disk way back when, but it was either k3b or some lightweight windows burner. Don't use nero, it's teh debil.
Also, try not typing any text at all at the CD's boot prompt, and just hit enter. |

I've just fired up a Sun Ultra 10 using...
1) The STOP-A key combination
2) boot cdrom
3) 2617
The 2617 will boot the 2.6.17 kernel. If this falls flat on its face, use 2616 instead to boot up a 2.6.16 kernel.
Hope this helps.
