I'm pretty sure that this doesn't belong in the "installing gentoo" section, so I will put it here.
I have emerged gnome, and got X working, and indeed, I can login and get a gnome session. However that's only as root. If I am not root, the screen blanks as if it's changing resolution or something, and then pops me back out to the login screen.
I have looked on the gnome page and a lot of other places. Even google doesn't want to help me.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Do I need to put users into some sort of gnome group? That would be weird, but stranger things have happened. _________________ There are thousands of types of people in this world:

Two possibilities...
1) Sticky bit on /tmp needs to be set - chmod 1777 /tmp
2) Make sure you select a default WM from GDM for the first time. Subsequent login will use the defaut. Its probably currently nothing, so select one then you should be ok.
