sorry for this post but the others didnt help me.
i have a ati 9700 cideo card that doesnt get along well with X. when it does work it looks horrible. i ran emerge ati-drivers and ran the config tool like portage said, after when i ran x i had a completly blank screen. when i hit control-alt-delete it did restart. i copied line for line my monitor file and i have the radeon support in my kernel. i have also trried in my xconfig file switching from ati to radeon.
any advice?
thanks |

You can choose to use the binary ati-drivers or the open source XFree-DRM drivers (emerge -s xfree-drm). XFree-DRM may not support the 9700 yet. Either way, don't enable radeon support in your kernel; it's outdated. Just enable agpgart, leave the specific drivers and the direct rendering manager blank in that section. |
