Why would somebody want to install the original scripts from the paludis-extras overlay? Just install it from the official portage tree then.
imho this useflag is rather superfluous.

If you have overlay installed, then you can still choose wether you want a patched package or not. But if i remove the paludis useflag, then everybody who have p-e overlay setup will have to use patched packages, or mask everything i put in the overlay. And that I think can be more annoying.

@truc
as the news item explains you have to mask anyway.

@zxy
why you have to mask everything? Just mask the packages where you want the version from the gentoo repository.
And you have to mask these packages for one of both repositories anyway.

Paludis extras: paludis wrapper changes
  • _paludis_wrapper.bash location
    the file is now installed in /usr/bin and not in /usr/local/bin
    the alias must therefore be changed (probably in /root/.bashrc)
    Code:
    alias paludis="bash /usr/bin/_paludis_wrapper.bash"

  • configuration file
    paludis-ask.conf and paludis-nice.conf are now merged in one file paludis-wrapper.conf

  • other improvements
    - the output of ask has been changed - no more terminate message
    - message about running with nice value has been removed

The team behind paludis extras appologizes for possible problems and lost nerves, due
to the above changes.

ask hook had some problems with 0.22.2 version of paludis.

It is fixed in paludis-hooks-ask-2.2_pre1 that is in the overlay. :D

It is currently masked until some more people than just me test it. For me it worked without any problems.

--- edit ---
currently:
Code:
paludis-hooks-ask-2.2_pre2
paludis-wrapper-0.1.2_pre1

hello there, just wanted to mention the new --pipe option for qlop( new portage-utils version : 20070405):

and... more intesting info with the --current switch:

     started: Thu Apr  5 11:59:25 2007

I don't know if this is the proper place to ask for help, but I can't install app-paludis/paludis-wrapper:
Code:

install: cannot stat `paludis-wrapper-0.1.1/paludis-wrapper.conf': No such file or directory

!!!    * ebuild_main (/usr/libexec/paludis/ebuild.bash:354)
!!!    * main (/usr/libexec/paludis/ebuild.bash:372)

die trap: exiting with error.

Install error:
  * In program paludis -i paludis-hooks:

  * When executing install task:
  * When installing 'app-paludis/paludis-wrapper-0.1.1':

Where are these "missing" files supposed to be?

I forgot to post about ask hook update. The pre versions of ask and wrapper script are unmasked now. They are fixed for 0.22.2 version of paludis.

Added update-eix 2.3: faster, especially with lots of overlays.

Code:
 * app-paludis/paludis-hooks-0.2.1::paludis-extras: Masked by eapi ( UNKNOWN ) (probably a broken ebuild)
    * app-paludis/paludis-hooks-0.3.0::paludis-extras: Masked by eapi ( UNKNOWN ) (probably a broken ebuild)
    * app-paludis/paludis-hooks-0.3.1::paludis-extras: Masked by eapi ( UNKNOWN ) (probably a broken ebuild)

    * app-paludis/paludis-hooks-0.3.3::paludis-extras: Masked by eapi ( UNKNOWN )
What is wrong here?

Shadow Skill check your paludis-extras.conf file.
you must have master_repository=gentoo set, or eclass line if you don't set the master_repository.

See the install instructions.

Shadow Skill, kernelOfTruth:

the interresting thing is, that i can't reproduce the errors. I uninstalled paludis-hooks with dependencies (--->the meta and all hooks ...) and installed it again. I get no problems at all. :?:

The idea that crosses my mind considering this is about permissions of the folders. Might be worth checking there.

I came home only for half an hour or so, but I'll try to see this problem deeper tonight (sometime after midnight CET).

If you can it might be cool to come to #paludis-extras channel on irc freenode where we can try to solve this much easier (more interactive).

Anyway, after midnight ..... :wink:

yeah, it could have been something with the permissions:

I copied over some paludis overlay-files & paludis-*.conf files over from my laptop to my rig ... :(
could it also have been something with package_mask.conf and package_unmask.conf ?

anyway, I played back a backup & it's updating now without problems,

thanks :)

update:

it was your were right:

I had to
Code:
chown -R root:paludisbuild
a lot of directories :wink:

using direct IP address

Some users, especially from China, have problems with using DynDNS sites. They can use 89.212.157.253 IP instead of drzile.dyndns.org.

The users with such problems can also just put entries in /etc/hosts (so it can be used by browsers etc, too)

Due to some changes at my internet provider drzile.dyndns.org changed the IP. This is mostly important for people from China, where dyndns.org is blocked. For most other users this change means nothing.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

I don't know if it's related to your repository, but could you please fix revdep-rebuild in the paludis-patched gentoolkit ?

I always get:

Quote:
All prepared. Starting rebuild...
paludis --preserve-world --install -p =sys-block/gparted-0.3.3 =You
Building target list...
Unhandled exception:
* In program paludis --preserve-world --install -p =sys-block/gparted-0.3.3 =You:
* When performing install action from command line:
* When adding install target '=You':
* When validating package name part '=You':
* Name '=You' is not a valid package name part (paludis::PackageNamePartError)

-> mark the =You (only some cosmetic stuff) :wink:

thanks in advance
