Any workaround?

Delete /usr/share/screenlets/CopyStack dir.

Anyone feel like updating this ebuild? The current version is completely outdated as you know, and essential features are therefore lacking, like custom plugins, which means you cant get features like the sidebar, which is probably the most wanted. I think a lot of people want a new ebuild, and I would do it if I could, but I cant so I'm asking anyone that is reading this.

I agree, this ebuild needs to be updated. Unfortunately, I don't know how to write ebuilds yet, so I am at the mercy of others.

Hey all,

I had a small problem with running screenlets-manager that i just fixed. I have x11-plugins/screenlets-0.0.10 installed and trying to execute screenlets-manager was kicking back some weird errors about not finding something like /usr/local/share/screenlets-manager/screenlets-manager.py so I did some looking around and saw that the files it was looking for was in /usr instead of /usr/local so I just symlinked /usr/local/share/screenlets-manager -> /usr/share/screenlets-manager as a quick fix.

I'm sure there is a better fix for this if you have the same issue, but It works again so I'm happy :)

btw, i found that if you try to run screenlets-manager with the gksu app (don't ask why i tried) it will kick back some weird dbus errors (maybe my root isn't in the plugdev group lol)

I hope this might help someone else. Enjoy,

Sorry for asking, but what is the command to do the symlink?

I have kinda the same problem..

Code:
Unable to load 'CopyStack' from /usr/share/screenlets/CopyStack: invalid syntax (CopyStackScreenlet.py, line 365)
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/share/screenlets-manager/screenlets-manager.py", line 589, in ?
    app = ScreenletsManager()
  File "/usr/local/share/screenlets-manager/screenlets-manager.py", line 133, in __init__
    self.load_screenlets()
  File "/usr/local/share/screenlets-manager/screenlets-manager.py", line 259, in load_screenlets
    info = ScreenletInfo(s, meta['name'], meta['info'], meta['author'],
TypeError: unsubscriptable object

that's what I get when I run screenlets-manager (as user, don't know if you have to run screenlets as root or as user)

anyway, thanks in advance..

The latest version of screenlets is available on the desktop-effects overlay (xeffects overlay is dead. desktop-effects overlay replace it).

note: I need to type
Code:
layman -ka desktop-effects
in order to add it to my overlay. layman -L don't list it.

enjoy ;)

How can i avoid that gnome-python-desktop (or screenlets itself?) wants to install 22 packages of the gnome-desktop? Wasn't there a useflag in the gnome-python-desktop ebuild from the old xeffects overlay?

Code:
benson benson # emerge -pv screenlets

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Seems like the old gnome-python-desktop overlay got left behind with the move to desktop-extras. I did some experimenting with trying to find/install the python rsvg bindings without the gnome entourage but failed. It must be easy to package pyrsvg separately but apparently the gnome people are not inclined to do so at the moment.

I ended up copying the g-p-d ebuild to my desktop-extras overlay (there is already a dev-python directory to include it in). By running through the depends one at a time I found that the one causing the most problems was totem - don't want it and don't need it and it was pulling in firefox when I already have that in the bin form. So I pulled totem from the depends list, knocking the packages down from 60+ to 34 and emerged. I now have screenlets on my desktop!

I think there are two problems: 1) pyrsvg needs to be made into a separate package,and 2) the gnome-python-desktop is an all-or-nothing blunt instrument in need of a few use flags. Very frustrating but I got there in the end. Now all I need are a few good screenlets.

Good luck
