And by that, i mean the forums. I noticed that i joined in november 2002, some months after Gentoo released its first distribution and i was wondering if you, yes you, the reader of this post, joined early as well
Now if you check my profile/posts you'll notice that i didn't actually *do* much with the account. But luckily for me, that wasn't the point of my question |

I guess looking at your profile number is more accurate. Accounts have been deleted in time for banned user, inactive user and whatever
By the way, I'm number 38637....
Anyway, in all the member, a lot are inactive, and among this lot, a good number havent posted more than once or twice. |

I guess I'm one of the earlier ones as well. I joined in December 2002, as soon as I got broadband. Have always been somewhat active, but lately a lot more. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

I still have a gentoo 1.1 cd lying around somewhere and had a sytem up and running before the forums were started. Installed and maintained that system for probably around two years over a modem. First messed around with Slackware in the mid-90's when the kernel was 1.something. Tried various distros over the years. Gentoo was the one to finally push me over and it is my desktop most of the time except for photoshop and an occasional game. |

I've been around off and on for quite some time. I usually do more reading then posting, so I'm sure not many people recognize me.

I am number 11 though, on the GLUE folding team. I've been doing that for quite a while in the name of Gentoo. _________________ My Folding@home Stats!

Started using Gentoo and joined the forums at around the same time. It wasn't my first choice, but I was quickly won over when the Gentoo 64-bit livecd's booted on my system when nothing else would. _________________ Petition for Better 64-bit ATI Drivers - Sign Here

When was Gentoo 1.4 released? I started with that one.
Lurked here sporadically until The Most-Ever-Joined Day, 30 Dec 2004, when I finally broke something that warranted speaking up and became user #93393. _________________ Plants are pithy, brooks tend to babble--I'm content to lie between them.

It was late 2002 for me, 1.4rc1 or 1.4rc2 was the first I downloaded. Unfortunately I don't have much left over from those days, there is a screenshot I found of me in Fluxbox... running Mozilla and X-Chat 2.0.0. Since I kinda remember taking the screenshot in a class, I think that's from around March 2003.
But it was definitely late 2002 that I installed, Nov/Dec IIRC. I remember messing around with my school laptop, breaking the Windows install, and shrugging while I wiped it and the provided Mandrake and installed Gentoo. Actually, it was probably 1.4rc2 in December because I think I did it while I was on some sort of college break.
I'm #15084, and I feel all old now. |

I joined last year, and pretty much was installing Gentoo for the first time at the time to. I was drawn to it by its xbox counterpart, Gentoox, and because it could recognize my ancient laptops ethernet card. I still remember fondly, waiting ages (couple hours, over 2 at least) for my kernel to (re)compile on A Pentium-MMX processor with only a mere 4GB hard drive and 64MB RAM. If the ethernet card didnt break on it, I would still be using it. |

Having been imfamously banned a few times I'll just link to the first account: https://forums.gentoo.org/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1402
which as a join date of 17 May 2002, I started using Gentoo prior to the 1.0 release so I remember the old forums
I remember one lazy afternoon where I was so bored I read all my old posts - I highly recommend that to oldfarts it's a lot of fun to see what exactly was going on in the community back then. |
