| Yeah, I'm in kind of a mess here...
Basically, I have a problem with my mail server program running on Win2K, and I need to change to something else. I figured this was as good an opportunity as any to just move it over to Gentoo.
My problem is, I don't know squat about any of the mail server packages available on Gentoo. All I need is POP3 & SMTP. I also need a mailing list program that will let me easily add a couple of hundred users. My current mailing list program can export its user list as a simple tab-seperated text file, each line containing EMAIL-TAB-USERNAME. Webmin module is a super major plus. Qmail looks good from a brief overview, but I'm not sure. Oh, another good plus, although not required, is the ability to authenticated users to relay. I kinda need the ability to send things with arbitrary addresses in the FROM field, but I don't want to be an open relay.
I'd try and research everything myself and just try various things out, but I need a solution quickly.
Also, some very good BIND docs would be nice, because our network admin quit, I don't know anything period about BIND or DNS servers in general, and I don't have any books on hand. If this server works out, I'm going to need to give it something like mail.sydaptic.com.
Another thing. We currently are running BIND 9.2.0 on Win2K. I see the latest is 9.2.2. If I emerge it, can I just take the config file from the Win2K box, drop it in, and have it work?
Oh, and one last thing: (not really, but the rest can wait. ): Why the heck isn't traceroute a part of the base system?!?!
