I'm starting to play around with the development-sources and mm-sources 2.5.x kernels on my laptop, and have had troubles getting my PCMCIA NIC card working. I am running the current gentoo-sources kernel for my day to day stuff, and have grub configured to pick the kernel I want to use at boot.
I have pcmcia-cs emerged for networking with my laptop under kernel 2.4, which works fine. The 2.5.x kernels have PCMCIA support built in, and if I'm not mistaken, will eventually not need pcmcia-cs to handle networking through a PCMCIA NIC card. My most recent attempt at building the 2.5.x kernel has the appropriate PCMCIA and drivers for my NIC card compiled in. However, I have not been able to get networking going on my laptop under 2.5.x yet.
So if I am trying to get networking going under 2.5.x, do I unemerge pcmcia-cs? Reemerge pcmcia-cs under the 2.5.x kernel? Give up and wait for 2.6 to come out? |
