Hi,
I have one of those mini AMD PIC(personal Internet Communicator), it comes with Windows CE (eeek) and refuses to boot anything else. I tried via CF IDE adaptor DOS and Linux. I discovered LinuxBIOS but unfortuantely the BIOS chip is soldered onto the mainboard, so no chance to reflash. I read in numerous places that the BIOS controls the booting and only allows built-in WinCE *pukes* to boot. They say this is implemented as a cryptographic handshaking between the BIOS and OS loader.

The architecture is x86. This machine has a AMD Geode CPU.
Anyone managed to work around this? And ideas?

bLUEbYTE84,

A good place to look is handhelds.org

Your BIOS will have been programmed after the device was assembled using the JTAG chain.
If you don't know what that is, you probably don't want to mess with it.
It involves taking the device apart and gaining access to the test connector. This 'connector' may only be a few small gold pads on the PCB.

Very nice. I always thought that loading from CE would be the only way (other than re-flashing the BIOS). But the thing is; I already sold that machine
