Hi everyone...
I'm writting this little msg just to share a pretty satisfying surprise I got last night. I usually run X when required (as I really hate svgalib based links) and therefore use everything the smallest possible. I used to think that DEs were so slow under linux and nixes in general. Of course, I'm talking about Gnome & KDE. trying Gentoo out, I emerged KDE 3.1.1a and actually, it was muuuuch faster than what I've seen on slack or mdk. Anyway... KDE still was missing something.... It took hours to emerge (like that word!) and still felt somehow too heavy. Therefore I somehow decided that no DEs for linux were worth it and I was likely to believe that my little brother was right to dual boot, since he doesn't care about kernels, emacs or anything, he wants Desktops!! I'm presonally satisfied with FluxBox, but last night, I decided to give Gnome some 24hours to emerge so I could try it out. Of course, CFLAGS tuned at the tip top of what my proc could bare (P3 900), and here we go. Hell...

It only took like 6 or 7 hours to fully build, and guess what... It's Smooth. Yeah... I'll say it again : Smooth... Here it is... Come on JS (my bro), let's fuck those NTFS parts right now!!

I'm happy guys, I think Gnome is making Linux more and more desktop ready, and also, let's be honnest, I'm sure that KDE's worth it, it should just do some exercise to ge somehow Smoother

Life rocks... and yeah... Epiphany too :D

There is a way to cut KDE's compile-time in half. Search the forums, and you shall see the light

I personally don't care how long an ebuild takes.
The important part is getting it optimized for my platform.

I personally use KDE and find it much smoother and more usable than Gnome. Nver understood why people hate GUI's so much. Might be that I don't care to be 1337.
