firefox + acroread (acrobat) problem

I have a strange problem recently, and can't find other post addressing this problem... (moreover I have no idea what "emerge" started this problem...)

acrobat works perfectly by itself, the same firefox (I used the 1.5 version, but the problem persists with 2.0), but, if I click on a PDF link acrobat starts without loading the document. I obviously have acroread compiled (and also recompiled...) with the nsplugin flag, and "about:plugins" in firefox displayes the acroread plugin... After a while, if I kill the acrobat window coming up, another window starts, after killing the second window a message "can't' find acroread executable" popup message appears....

any idea anyone ?
