1) I can't boot with any other CD than one from Sept. 2003.
Because any other CD hangs up during PCI hotplugging during boot.
Without hotplugging my network doesn't work. Knoppix can't detect my eth0 anyway.
FINE. I boot with this.
2) I download the stage1 for my athlon64. Follow exactly the handbook.
Can't chroot.
Get: Exec format error.
3) Tried the x86 universal. chroot works.
But big failure during emerge system.
4) HOW CAN I GET MY 64 bit OS WORKING???
it really starts to suck.
Anyone can help me. Please.
I got this hint:
Well, I got the amd64 version to work by doing the following:
* Download the 2004.0 amd64 minimal livecd
* Download the 2004.1 amd64 stage1 tarball
* Use the following make.conf:
Code:
CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -momit-leaf-frame-pointer -frename-registers -funroll-loops -ftracer"
CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}"
CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"
MAKEOPTS="-j2"
LINGUAS="en_GB"
USE="alsa dvd cdrw crypt encode divx4linux xvid fam fbcon gpm gtk2 -gnome -qt -kde -arts -java mpeg -mozilla -mysql oggvorbis png pdflib readline imagemagick zlib -multilib usb cups apache2 nptl -motif"
GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp:///ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/ ftp://mirrors.sec.informatik.tu-darmstadt.de/gentoo/ http://ftp.snt.utwente.nl/pub/os/linux/gentoo http://gentoo.mirror.sdv.fr http://gentoo.tiscali.nl/gentoo/ http://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirrors/gentoo/"
(Well, there's more, but I don't want to cause confusion )
Then follow the amd64 handbook... and here I am with my 64-bit operating system!
Note: You probably want to enable multilib and disable nptl in your USE flags...
Note 2: And probably you should tone your CFLAGS down a bit... -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer is probably good... -march=athlon64 doesn't work with gcc-3.3.3...
But the same. exec format error.

i just installed gentoo on my amd64 box and it took me about a couple weeks to finally get it working. mainly because i had no clue what i was doing with gentoo. have you tried the 2004.1 universal amd64 livecd? thats what worked for me. after it boots youll need to modprobe the module for your network card (you'll need to find this out somehow; via the net or previous linux experience). then you'll want to setup your partitions and mount the root partition to /mnt/gentoo and more or less just follow the big amd64 install guide. personally i HIGHLY recommend stage1 even if its your first time. its hardly anymore work just more twiddling your thumbs while waitng for things to compile and its a helluva lot faster. especially gcc _________________ Really, I'm not out to destroy Microsoft. That will just be a completely unintentional side effect.
