emerging latest ebuilds on fresh system

Hello.

I am building my gentoo starting with 1.4.rc2 at stage 3. When emerging some packages I Dont get the latest builds installed. For example:

for libpng (needed for gnome ) there are two ebuilds in my portage tree: 1.2.4 and 1.2.5. On the server (I build a local mirror from distfiles.ibibilio.org) there are the tarballs of both versions. emerge installs ver 1.2.4 but not the latest.

How can I change that so Emerge installs the latest available tarball ???
