I've been having problems using 2006.1LiveCD/DVD where the disk stops reading, right after booting at the first prompt.
However I do have a Gentoo 1.4 CD, and was able to use that. I downloaded the 2006.1 stage 3 and portage tree so that everything would be upto date, when I would build the system. But when I went to chroot into /mnt/gentoo it gave me a "Kernel out of date" error or "Kernel too old". Seeing this error doesn't make sense to me, considering I hadn't done anything regarding the kernel.
I'm not sure if the disk error is related to using a 2006.1CD as I've heard there are some problems.
I'm trying to install on a AXP-m 2400 with 512Ram (Averatec 6200 laptop) |

The "kernel too old" error comes from glibc. My guess is that you're using a NPTL profile and/or have enabled the nptl USE flag. For glibc to work using NPTL you have to be running a 2.6.5 or newer kernel (2.6.9+ highly recommended).
Try to get a LiveCD/LiveDVD using recent kernel. It doesn't even have to be a Gentoo disk - all you really need is the ability to run the chroot command, and for that any distribution will do. _________________ Military Commissions Act of 2006: http://tinyurl.com/jrcto
