|
|
The problem is solved. There is a new version of mysql (I had -r1, see below) as well as a new sys-apps/mysql. Installing them magically enabled a proper run of the init.d script.
Code: |
[I--] [ ] dev-db/mysql-5.0.26-r2 (0)
[I--] [ ] dev-perl/DBD-mysql-2.9007 (0)
[I--] [ ] sys-apps/mysql-1.1 (0)
[I--] [ ] virtual/mysql-5.0 (0)
|
Original message:
Greetings,
I have a weird problem when starting mysql (and failing) -- the core of the problem is that that I cannot get any error messages.
I use mysql for years with gentoo, it may be that the issue appeared with a recent upgrade.
The installed packages are:
Code: |
[I--] [ ] dev-db/mysql-5.0.26-r1 (0)
[I--] [ ] dev-perl/DBD-mysql-2.9007 (0)
[I--] [ ] virtual/mysql-5.0 (0)
|
The short story:
Code: | # mysql --user=mysqld |
starts fine and runs fine
mysql when started with
Code: | # /etc/init.d/mysql start |
fails to start with the follwing error:
Code: |
* Starting mysql ...
* Starting mysql (/etc/mysql/my.cnf)
* MySQL NOT started (1)
|
I would be happy to debug this myself - just do not know how to enable logging when starting a service via the init.d scripts.
My /var/log/mysql directory had 0 length files. The ownerships are correct (mysql:mysql).
Any help would be greatly appreciated (either how to enable verbose errors, or how to fix the problem or anything).
Thank you in advance,
Wojtek |

Yes, though in my case mysql was not starting.
Thanks for the pointer.
