I've been reading on developers supposedly leaving gentoo, well they are flesh and bones just like the rest of us. Plenty of us can code python, so where's the call for new developers?

See the document linked on the word 'here'.

Python code is only a small part of what makes Gentoo what it is. While I'm sure there are plenty of tasks for python coders, there's also a lot of work elsewhere. If you're good with coding or learn quickly, you might want to start by writing or updating an ebuild (package) for a program you want to use - useful resources include The Dev Manual, The Advanced Bash Script (ABS) Guide and the #gentoo-dev-help IRC channel.

There is also work for people who don't code - including working on documentation (which also includes translating, if you speak multiple languages fluently) and helping to test software.

A couple of places you might want to look are the staffing needs page and just to generally browse through the different Gentoo projects to see if there's any particular tasks that catch your interest.

Also check out the Developer Relations Project page for other useful documents.

If you're still not sure how to get started, why not pop into #gentoo-bugs (particularly on the first Saturday of each month, which is Bug Day) or the #gentoo-dev-help IRC channel. Alternatively, you could just get stuck in by searching out bugs you can help to solve on on Gentoo's Bugzilla.

Hope that helps.
