Hello,

I knew that it would happen when i installed gentoo on that box.
I knew it and i made myself a promise that i would tackle this problem head on.

On my laptop i was able to get AGP support (and 3D support) in 10 minutes after xorg was installed.
But on my desktop i just can't seem to find the problem on why i can't use Direct rendering with the flgrx driver.

Ive exhosted all of my options.
Its got me beat, so i am affraid you gys are my last hope.
Ill give all the info that is probably needed.

Do you get any warnings or errors while compiling ati-drivers?

try compiling your kernel with all the AGP stuff (/dev/agpgart and relevant children) as kernel modules

You haven't upgraded gcc recently have you? I had similar issues once - ended up upgrading gcc, followed by the wonderful joy of world emerge. That, and a kernel upgrade, fixed it all for me.
As something else to try - get the latest kernel version. Also, what hardware is in the desktop (mobo especially)? Been a long time since I was plagued with agp issues, but I used to muck about with lots of things to get it working. Not sure, but the firegl drivers used to have their own agp modules, and I used them where I could. Just a matter of getting the installer to work properly, and making sure the modules were loaded in the right order.
You can probably ignore the "no matching device for instance blah blah blah" for now - if I remember rightly, it's something about dual head configurations or something...don't quote me though.

But i don't think it will work. I have installed gentoo on this machine before.
I keep running in to this problem every damn time.

I am running a Asus A8VDeluxe it has a via chipset

Please someone, tell me how to get 3D working

right..

I got it working by compiling "AMD Opteron/Athlon64 on-CPU GART support " in the kernel.

But (a big but) i only get arround 500FPS with an X800 Pro
Wich is obvious way to low !

Any solutions for this ?

Good to hear you got it working!
What are you using as a test-bed for that framerate? if it's glxgears, that's not the best (or most accurate) thing to use. Try an actual game (I personally use ppracer, ut2004, and doom3 as a test bed) and see what happens there. Also check the X log and dmesg for any errors
dmesg | grep agp
should pick up any...probably best to grep it with "fglrx" and "gart" as well.
And seeing as on-cpu gart had to be compiled in, I'm guessing you had to enable it? If so, try also enabling IOMMU (if it's not already).
Maybe check agp bus speed as well. Not that I can remember how to do that off the top of my head.

But basically, if the system is stable, and 3D apps run fine, don't worry, be happy

(unless you're like me, and can't stop poking at things).

Yeay i tried to run games.

tuxbros (or something like that runs fine)

but ppracer for example starts up but with a verry weird screen.
Collours mixed etc..
When i ctrl - C out of tux (or when i click exit) m desktop had to same weird collours as that game.

So there is still something wrong with it.

Where is IOMMU located in the kernel config ?

Are you using the same config file from an older kernel? I went looking for it in mine, and have since realised that it's usually enabled by default (apparently) and doesn't show up where it used to be (processor type & features --> IOMMU). There's info elsewhere in the forums on that. So....either add the line
CONFIG_IOMMU=y
or remove (read: backup and remove) the old config and build a-fresh (of which I'm sure many people will say is not necessary, but you never know), and re-emerge ati-drivers.
Of course none of that should really have anything to do with a weird screen in ppracer. I say should, as been there done that, and strange things happen....

Also, while I don't see it in the config you pasted, make sure console framebuffer is disabled (device drivers --> graphics support --> console display driver support). A friend had some problems with it once, but that was mainly with exiting X. Still, something else to rule out.
