I am using the elite duo keyboard/mouse wireless combo thing from logitech. I have it plugged in via USB. I compiled all the usb crap into my kernel and I can use the keyboard just fine in console. When I try to startx it takes longer than usual/it should to start and then once in I can't use my keyboard or mouse. The whole thing is like frozen up or something. If I plug in this wireless combo via ps/2 it works just fine. I would go ps/2 but when it is ps/2 my windows boot freezes up. I can do everything just find and then I can't type anything at the login screen for windows xp. Strange...I don't mind doing it ps/2 if I can get the windows thing to work but since windows is a bigger pain I decided usb might just be better. The wireless reciever thing plugs in via 1 usb plug or via 2 ps/2 plugs (one of whichis the usb plug with a converter on it.) Let me know if anyone has had this problem or knows why my usb keyboard/mouse isn't working in x. I have a feeling it is because only one usb port is supposed to do both the mouse and keyboard.

alright just switched my mouse and keyboard to usb. All that I had to do was to change /dev/mouse to /dev/usbmouse in /etc/X11/XF86Config
If that doesn't solve your problem make sure you have all this compiled into your kernel. Sometimes your bios will emulate at ps2 keyboard from a usb keyboard just for backward compatibility. So if you cant cat /dev/usbmouse and get garbage when you move your mouse around then you don't have the right stuff.
Input Core Support -> [ * ] Input Core Support
Input Core Support -> [ * ] Keyboard Support
Input Core Support -> [ * ] Mouse Support
USB Support -> [ * ] Support for USB
USB Support -> [ * ] Proper USB Driver (UHCI or OHCI)
USB Support -> [ * ] USB Human Interface Device (full HID) support
USB Support -> [ * ] HID input layer support
You could also make those modules. Also note you can't use the USB HID with the HIDBP driver (whatever that is) |
